The purpose of My Neighbor Magnets is to open a line of communication between the people that live right next-door to each other. It all starts with just sharing contact info and offering to be there if there is ever a need.
Step 1 is to fill our some contact information. It helps to put your house/unit number at the top to help your neighbor keep track, then put your name(s) and phone numbers, emails, ages, pets' names, etc. Whatever you think will be helpful to your neighbor in an emergency or important for them to know.
Step 2 is the part where most people fail. It requires a little bit of courage. Take your completed My Neighbor Magnet to your neighbor. If you are having trouble with this step Contact Us and we'll provide you with an information sheet that will help explain what My Neighbor Magnets are. If you have to, you can leave your magnet with that sheet or a note for them, maybe even sharing in the mailbox to ensure they receive your gift. In fact, the idea of My Neighbor Magnets came about in a way to make this step of introducing or reintroducing ourselves to our neighbors less awkward. By giving something and offering to be a resource to someone, it should relieve any of the apprehension someone might have about speaking with a neighbor.
If you are recieving a My Neighbor Magnet from your neighbor the best thing you can do is acknowledge it and reciprocate. We always recommend delivering your completed My Neighbor Magnet with a blank magnet that can be completed and returned. Having this little reminder of the person/people/pets that live next-door is always a great way to keep track of names and have just in case you need or they need some help.
Do not be afraid to reach out to your neighbor and invite them for dinner or ask them for help. Sometimes being a little vulnerable opens up a huge opportunity for someone to do something that they would otherwise not get the opportunity to do. Helping and serving others is so much more fulfilling that you'd expect, so when someone asks for help they are actually giving the opportunity to someone to serve them. Don't be afraid to use your magnets, even if it is just for remembering names and shouting hello to your neighbor. Even simple small talk can go a long way to changing someone's day.
